Behold…boring quasi-polaroids from my recent vacation in scenic Portland, Oregon…

My first night in the Pacific Northwest, after hours and hours in the air, I found myself in a car climbing the winding roads through the Mt. Hood National Forest.  We were heading for the hot springs, in honor of the vernal equinox.  Our bags were overflowing with snacks and beer.   Our heads were filled with fuzzy images of a night of tipsy soaking and laughing at newly invented inside jokes.

And then the snow interrupted our plans.   The road was not passable.

“No problem…we’ll just hike,” we declared as we laughed at nature’s half-assed attempt at ruining our fun.

Each of us guzzled down a beer before we began the trek.   “Alcohol will keep us warm!”   And the night was so beautiful and clear; every star was visible.  The roar of waterfalls filled our ears.  Surely no place on earth could be more amazing.

Reyna, Zach, and I were wearing canvas sneakers.  Brilliant.  Anthony was lucky enough (or smart enough) to wear hiking boots, so he disappeared into the darkness.  Our spirits were high as we tried to ignore our damp feet.  But hours later, we still hadn’t found the trail head.  At this point it was well after midnight.  We began the long (yet somehow warmer) hike back to the car.

Copious amounts of beer and snacks were consumed in the car.  Eventually we drove back to Portland.

Yeah, I’m disappointed that I didn’t get to experience the hot springs, but the entire adventure was still super-fun.   We will return when I visit for Memorial Day.

Friday night we had a dance party.  It started with lots of beer and Pictionary.  And then Zach and I took over the deejaying responsibilities.

Not only is Mike the tallest person I know, he is also supremely talented at both Pictionary AND super hot dance moves.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Reyna?  Not only is she my most-best friend in the world, she  also makes me laugh more than just about anyone else.  Furthermore, she makes the best vegan tacos ever (hands down).  She is moving to Argentina for six months (starting in July), and I’m already missing her.  This is motivating me to FINALLY get a replacement passport.

“Break dancing.” According to the Pictionary.  Did you know that Mary is Reyna’s sister/roommate?  That’s her in the picture below, with Zach.

thumbs up.
